David Olbrich

Bio: Dave has worked on the business side of publishing and comics for more than twenty-five years. In 1986 he was a founding partner in Malibu Comics, which grew from a four-man operation to one of the top-five comic publishing companies in the United States, with more than ninety employees. While at Malibu, Dave served as point-man for the organizing and launch of Image Comics. He was the publisher/editor of the comic industry’s first business publication, Comics Business, and served as the founding administrator for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. After a short stint at Marvel Comics—to which Malibu was sold in 1994—he set up his own agency for comic writers and artists. At various points in his career, Dave has also managed a comic retail store, provided customer service at a comic distribution warehouse, served as managing editor for a comic fan magazine (Amazing Heroes), worked as Director of U.S. Publishing for the French publisher Humanoids Associes, and was the chief administrator for the launch of Gorilla Comics. Dave lives with his wife in Southern California.
